What You Can Expect

Your tour will begin upon getting picked up from your hotel. While pick-up times can vary, you should expect to be picked up around 8 am. Note that Hotel pick-ups can begin about 45 minutes to one hour ahead of this time, so be sure to review your booking details upon confirmation to make sure you’re ready to be picked up at the appropriate time.

Your driver will serve as your guide for the day. Not only will your driver be prompt, courteous and professional, but they will also be your expert on the city and, more importantly, the desert.

As you travel from your hotel to the desert, you’ll pass many of Abu Dhabi’s historic landscape and vibrant street life. After a short period of time, Abu Dhabi’s futuristic skyline will disappear and more naturalistic as the desert comes into view. On your drive, you’ll hear about your itinerary for the morning so you can know what lies ahead of you.

Finally, you’ll arrive at the desert and your desert safari tour can begin. Your expert driver will skillfully drive you through the desert region, over the dunes, while you hold on for the thrill. Take in the thrills as you go up the hills and then back down. If you’re up for it, let your driver know you’re ready for a real thrill.

Hang on tight as your driver goes dune bashing in your air-conditioned 4×4 vehicle. Feel the wheels slip, in a controlled manner, and skid over the slopes and the ever-shifting sands.

After the dune bashing, you’ll arrive at a Bedouin-style camp. The Bedouin people are Arabic-speaking nomadic groups. At this camp, you can relax and take in the culture of the people. Relax under the Bedouin tents, sit on the cushions and take in the views of the decorative carpets.

You can also enjoy some complimentary refreshments, such as water, soda, mineral water, Arabic coffee and dates. After you’ve refueled yourself, it’s time to partake in various activities. These desert activities are both traditional and modern. The first activity you can partake in is camel riding.

Board a camel—after safety instruction of course—and travel the desert like a native Bedouin. You’ll be able to take in the desert’s beauty from a higher peak as your guide educates you on your trek. You can also try your hand at sand boarding, a popular desert sport. It’s like surfing, skateboarding or snowboarding.

Your guide will give you a sand board and a safety briefing and then you are free to try your hand at sand boarding.

Once you’ve finished your activities, it’s unfortunately time to return home. You will climb back into your air-conditioned vehicle and embark back to your hotel.
